I love the gaggle of ducks, the chorus of sparrow nestlings, the call of gulls before dawn -- and I ABSOLUTELY love the song of the black-capped chickadee. I was a one-time member of the Audubon Society to get into bird watching but, like Morrison, it wasn't a formal hobby. Guzmán preserves the memory of Morrison's intimacy of birds in life (and in literature) while sharing some of her own.
