Cheers! It's our second Halloween as the founding Harrisburg NAACP Environmental Committee.

It's also time for production of the animated cartoon on fire safety and prevention. As mentioned in the executive meeting, I'll produce it with personal funds rather than branch funds. However, I'll license it free to the branch in the name of the Environmental Committee. I'd like to retain the rights to the non-commercial cartoon because of my investment in time, creativity, and intellectual property.

I ask for your understanding.

A shortened transcription of the mayor's remarks [follow]. I can't help but notice similarities between her remakes on the fire department, fires in the city, and (the) Committee [newsletter], especially (that) from last month.

While calls to [non-comprehensible] have risen, they too have risen to the challenge of protecting Harrisburg citizens. Harrisburg Bureau of Police is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days out of the year, 7 days a week. They are always on call, ready to spring into action.

Oftentimes, they respond to fires in the City in under five minutes, which [inaudible] an accomplishment. [Inaudible] ... it's believed to be the fastest in the fire department's history.

Because of that, I am beyond proud to say that not a single life under their watch in the year 2022. 

And it's not just lives being saved; it's property as well. Hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars, of property has been saved by our firefighters this year. Furthermore, a lack of volunteer firefighters is putting an even greater dependence on our firefighters. 

[Inaudible] ... municipalities outside the city is at an all-time high. And it's not uncommon for Harrisburg firefighters to [inaudible] ... arrive first on the scene. And [inaudible] ... our firefighters are put into [inaudible] ... it's more than just local; it's national.

Eight members of the Harrisburg fire department just returned home from Florida. where they helped search-and-rescue mission in the wake of Hurricane Ian as members of PA Task Force One, an elite group of first responders working under FEMA.

On another note, congratulations to the Harrisburg Fire Department and residents of the City of Harrisburg affected by fires, especially residential ones. In the 2022 State of the City Address, the mayor noted that no fatalities have resulted in any fire up to that point.
