Hi, <Redacted>.
[Once again], Happy New Year! How about I respond to the articles related you've gifted me on environmental justice and such over the last several months as January and February updates? I'd like to focus my responses on their titles because of the number of articles addressed. "Putin's War Is a Crime Against the Planet" (T. L. Friedman, Sept. 2022) This piece is the first I've heard of protected forests in Ukraine as a funding source to combat its invasion by Russia. I expect that Ukrainians themselves will need more timber just to rebuild their own communities. It would not surprise me if worldwide timber prices rise as wheat and fuel have. Or if Ukraine itself witnesses a rise in illegal logging or imports on timber trafficked from protected lands elsewhere, including indigenous lands. "They're 'World Champions' of Banishing Water. Now, the Dutch Need to Keep it." (R. Zhong, Oct. 2022) Wow. Access to freshwater seems to be a challenge for the Netherlands that Phoenix might avoid. Independent of the dwindling supply of water from the Colorado River, one water utility company claims to have enough water supplies, underground reserves, etc. to supply the growing, bone-dry area for the next 100 years. Unfortunately, I'm not able to provide more reactions because some of the links were essay-length. How about I keep it going with another 2-to-3 reactions -- until I get through them all?
